Rats and mice carry various pathogens with them wherever they go. Due to this, they cause significant threats to individuals and pets. That’s why it is important to maintain a periodic rodent control service. The rat pest control Sydney is well equipped to carry out various methods to provide a pest-free environment for you and your family.

The rats have excellent memory and navigation skills and can escape through small holes and spaces. These can climb, balance well on narrow spaces of height, and are great swimmers. Due to their adaptability, they are found in underdrains and sewers, garbage grounds, etc. Since they live in these areas, there is a high chance that they carry diseases with them. This can have an immense effect, and thus, it is important to maintain hygiene and periodic clearance of these pests.

One must be aware of the various types of diseases these rodents carry and why it is important to seek help from pest control.

    Exploring Rodent Borne Illness

Rats and mice live in unsanitized areas, which include drainage systems, basement, and waste areas. They leave their pathogens through droppings and urine on surfaces, including food items,  utensils, and cutleries. The list of pathogens is as follows:

    Hantavirus

    • Rodents with the virus can spread by their droppings, urine, and bites.
    • Severe breathing problems, rashes, muscle aches, and vomiting may ensue.
    •  It can also be life-threatening and can cause organ failure, respiratory disorder, shock, and fatality.

    Leptospirosis

    • It is a bacteria that is carried by rats and other rodents that can get affected by consuming food and water contaminated by the affected animals.
    • The bacteria can also be spread through open wounds and cuts.
    • Fever, intense headaches, vomiting, and red eyes are potential indications.
    • Seeking medical attention is imperative because failing to do so may result in serious side effects such as jaundice, meningitis, bleeding, and even death.

    Rat Bite Fever

    • This bacterial infection is transmitted to humans, commonly through bites.
    • Also, it can be transmitted through scratches and mucous secretion of the infected rodent.
    • People who get this can suffer from fever, vomiting, headache, rashes, diarrhea, and also swollen joints.
    • There are cases of infection affecting internal organs, including the heart, spinal cord, lungs, and brain.

    Salmonellosis

    • It is a widely common bacteria present in rodents that infects people through contamination.
    • The symptoms include diarrhea, fever, and abdominal cramps.
    • Severe infections may require medical attention.

    Preventive Measures to Control Rodents

There are several strategies for eliminating rats from your home. There are do-it-yourself options, such as purchasing rat traps. Using a repellent chemical, whose scent helps to ward off these rodents, is an additional choice. The key preventive measures include:

    • Closing all holes and entry points to prevent them from entering.
    • Maintaining a healthy and sanitary environment in residential and businesses.
    • Using tools like masks and gloves when handling potentially contaminated items.
    • Seeking medical attention if infected by rodent diseases.

These short-term solutions can only solve the surface-level issue. To get rid of them, one must find the root cause of the issues. Rat pest control experts are trained to find issues, and they will help get rid of them. Finding nests to clean all infested areas will make sure that you can live in your space without any worry of rats and rodents.
