Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India], February 26: Making The Difference NGO, in collaboration with a leading luxury real estate developer, Sunteck Realty, organised a menstrual health awareness session on 24th February 2024 for girls at MBMC School 34 in Mira Road. The session, held under the NGO’s initiative “Project Lajja,” aimed to educate 60 girls on various aspects of menstrual health and hygiene.
The session, attended by Arka Sengupta, Prashant Rajhans, and Saurav Kumar representatives from Sunteck Realty and Mr Deepak Vishwakarma from Making The Difference NGO, covered various topics like menstruation and menstrual health, pain management, debunking myths related to periods, the importance of menstrual hygiene and reproductive health, menstrual products and their disposal, and fostering healthy communication between girls and boys about these issues.
Following the session, Sunteck Realty supported the distribution of reusable sanitary pad kits to the girls. These kits, containing four pads each, can be used for up to a year, promoting sustainability and reducing waste.
Project Lajja has already reached over 15,600 girls and women across four states in India – Maharashtra, Gujarat, Delhi, and Uttar Pradesh. Through its collaboration with Sunteck Realty, the project is aiming to impact 1,000 girls in the Mumbai suburbs of Kalyan, Mira Road, and Vasai. This initiative will distribute 4,000 reusable cloth pads and help divert approximately 120,000 disposable pads from landfills, contributing to a cleaner environment.
By providing these kits, Project Lajja is empowering girls with confidence and ensuring they have access to safe and eco-friendly menstrual hygiene solutions for over 12,000 menstrual cycles.
