Mumbai (Maahrashtra) [India] September 20: In an industry which is prominently dominated by Bollywood background singers, some independent artists rise to fame while others continue to strive for recognition. Independent Artist Shilpa Joshi stands out charting her own path and whose music journey is capturing the industry’s attention. With her 2017 debut song ‘Pehla Pyaar’, she took her initial step into the industry. She also recorded the female version of the song ‘Hostel’ followed by ‘Channa Ve’. From then on she made a breakthrough with her single ‘Lahore Nachda’, followed by her soulful acoustic song ‘Tenu Dil De Wich’, showcasing her full range of talent with a very prominent label. However, the singer’s journey has been far from easy.
“Born in the district of Solan, Himachal Pradesh, the singer was raised by her father, whom she deeply admires.” Her mother passed away when Shilpa was just 2 years old, leaving her and her elder sister in their father’s care. Tragically, Shilpa also lost her brother in 2014. Excelling in her studies and completing her graduation, Shilpa pursued a job in the corporate world. But her passion for music couldn’t keep her in the corporate sector for long.
“You can’t stay on a path that’s not meant for you; similarly, the corporate world couldn’t keep me because my true calling was music,” says Shilpa. She shared that she felt a void while working and could no longer ignore her passion. When she told her father she was considering a career change, he was concerned but remained supportive.
Although Shilpa’s journey started later than usual, it was marked by hardships and challenges. She underwent major surgery, but with the unwavering support of her father and her determination, she overcame it all. She motivates her audience to truly chase what they desire and not settle for something that isn’t meant for them.
Throughout her childhood, she admired Naseebo Lal, Geeta Dutt, and Asha Bhosle, and their influence inspired her to pursue a singing career from a young age. “The combination of vocal traits from these renowned singers has shaped me as an artist, and I still draw inspiration from them,” shared Shilpa.
Shilpa is a diverse artist, displaying her versatility across a wide array of musical genres, from pop, contemporary, and acoustic to ballads and dynamic dance tracks. She possesses an innate talent for singing and songwriting, and she focuses on creating distinctive music that complements her unique vocals. She aims to explore new music and intends to showcase something fresh with each of her musical presentations.
