Valsad (Gujarat) [India], March 09: Supported by the Community Engagement initiative of Resonia Limited, BookForChange Foundation (BFC) inaugurated a women-led sanitary napkin production unit in Kaprada Taluka of Valsad district under Project Sanjeevani on the occasion of International Women’s Day. The initiative aims to improve menstrual hygiene while creating sustainable livelihood opportunities for tribal women in rural communities.

Menstrual hygiene continues to remain a major challenge in several villages of Kaprada Taluka. Limited awareness, social stigma, and lack of access to affordable sanitary products often force women and adolescent girls to rely on unhygienic alternatives. Such practices can lead to health complications and also contribute to school absenteeism among adolescent girls.

To address these challenges, the project has established a local sanitary napkin manufacturing unit operated by women from Self Help Groups (SHGs). Around 15 women have been trained, out of which 10 women are directly engaged in production and management of the unit, creating a sustainable source of income and empowering them economically.

The unit is expected to produce approximately 10,000 to 15,000 sanitary pads every month, which will initially be distributed through schools and community networks. Along with production, the initiative will also conduct menstrual hygiene awareness sessions for adolescent girls and women in nearby villages, helping break stigma and encouraging safe health practices.

The project also aims to develop a locally produced sanitary pad brand, ensuring long-term sustainability while strengthening women-led entrepreneurship in the region. The initiative represents a model “by women, for women,” ensuring that the value and benefits generated remain within the community.

Through this initiative, BookForChange Foundation, with the support of Resonia Limited, seeks to promote women’s health, dignity, and economic empowerment, while building a sustainable and community-driven model for menstrual hygiene management in rural areas.

Resonia Limited is developing a 258-km, 765 kV double-circuit transmission line connecting South Olpad (GIS) to Boisar-II (GIS), strengthening India’s national power grid. The project plays a significant role in contributing to the country’s goal of achieving 500 GW of non-fossil fuel energy capacity by 2030. Alongside this critical infrastructure development, the company continues to implement community engagement programs that support rural livelihoods and social well-being.
