Lanjigarh (Odisha) [India], April 4: Kalahandi Collector today not only inaugurated the newly-constructed 36 shop rooms meant for the Lanjigarh Rural Haat, but also formally handed them over to the Panchayat for the benefits of the locals.

In his keynote address, Kalahandi Collector Sachin Pawar said, “The Rural Haat in Lanjigarh is a significant step towards strengthening rural economies and uplifting local communities. With Vedanta’s support, this initiative is providing modern infrastructure, better market access, and new opportunities for farmers, self-help groups, and small retailers.”

“Such collaborations between industry and administration are crucial in driving inclusive development. We look forward to Vedanta’s continued efforts in fostering sustainable growth and empowering the people of Lanjigarh for a brighter future,” commented the Collector.

Alumina Business CEO Pranab Bhattacharyya said, “At Vedanta Lanjigarh, we are committed to fostering sustainable growth and empowering rural communities. The Rural Haat is a testament to our partnership with NABARD and Mahashakti Foundation, creating a robust marketplace for farmers and local producers.”

“By providing world-class infrastructure, we aim to enhance livelihoods, strengthen economic opportunities, and build a self-sustaining ecosystem for the people of Lanjigarh. This initiative is a step towards a more prosperous and resilient rural economy, where communities can thrive for generations to come,” added the CEO.

Built at an estimated cost of Rs 80.90 lakh jointly aided by Vedanata Aluminium and NABARD, the project has been executed by the local agency Mahashakti Foundation on the Panchayat-owned 2.5 acres of land with adequate lighting facilities and other basic amenities.

The newly-constructed 36 shop rooms, handed over to the Panchayat today, are meant for the daily market purpose so that the peripheral small and marginal farmers as well as the Women Self Help Groups (SHGs) could reap the benefits of marketing their products directly with the customers.

Prominent among other dignitaries, the inaugural function was also graced by NABARD DGM Maheswar Das, Lanjigarh Panchayat Samiti chairperson Kamala Patra, Lanjigarh sarpanch Saraswati Munda, Mahashakti Foundation MD Jugal Kishore Pattnaik, Lanjigarh Anchalik Vikash Parishad president Shridhar Peshnia, former Lanjigarh Zilla Parishad member Rajendra Pratap Singhdeo, former Lanjigarh sarpanch Chandradhwaj Peshnia and Lanjigarh CSR head Shishir Tarapdar, while the programme was managed by Tiku Shrimukh Agasti.
