    Grand Opening to Philip Capital National Masters Athletics

    Chennai (Tamil Nadu [India], April 30: The Masters Athletic Federation of India, affiliated with the Asian Masters Athletics and the World Masters Athletics, are organizing the Philip Capital 42nd National Masters Athletics Championship 2022. Chennai, which was flagged off after a grand opening ceremony on Wednesday. The Championships will continue till May 1. The Philip Capital National Masters championship qualifies Master Athletes to compete at the Asian and World Athletic Championships.

    The opening ceremony witnessed more than 3500 athletes competing from across 28 states in India, with a total of 22 Athletic disciplines across 13 age categories, making it the largest athletic competition.

    The Opening Ceremony was inaugurated byShri Udhayanidhi Stalin – a Member of the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly, Presided by Shri MA Subramanian, Minister for Health & Family Welfare, in the presence of Shri Siva. V. Meyyanathan Minister for Environment, Youth Welfare and Sports Development, Mrs. Margit Jungmann President World Masters Athletics, (Germany) Mr. Stanley Perkin Life President World Masters Athletics (Australia) and other Eminent Leaders and personalities.

    Mr. D David Premnath, Secretary-General of Masters Athletics Federation of India, said, “Adapting to the new normal and reviving back to sport from the unprecedented impacts of the COVID-19 Pandemic is the need of the hour. Building immunity, resilience and redefining the sport through advocacy with a positive approach, ensuring that the world of sport and the Master’s Movement continues to make its vital and valued contributions in building hope and a better sporting future for all.”
