New Delhi [India], April 26: In a milestone moment in history that is a spiritual benchmark for India and the world, Dr. Savitha Rani, a highly acclaimed trailblazer in Jalayoga from Bangalore, has emerged as the world’s first individual to undertake Jalayoga at the Maha Kumbh Mela—the largest religious congregation on planet Earth. Her pioneering act reshapes the synergy of yoga, water, and spirituality, reaffirming India’s leadership role as the world’s hub of ancient wisdom.

Referred to as the “Aqua Queen” and “Jalayoga Star of India,” Dr. Rani embarked on an unprecedented set of yoga asanas underwater at the mythic trinity confluence point of the rivers Ganga, Yamuna, and Saraswati in Prayagraj, during Maha Kumbh Mela. This once-144-year ritual is central to Hindu society.

Jalayoga, an esoteric and ancient yoga practiced over water, requires outstanding control over breath, equilibrium, and interior tranquility.

Dr. Savitha Rani has spent more than 25 years honing the art of this practice and has mastered over 45 aquatic asanas such as Padmasana, Chakrasana, Matsyasana, Sukhasana, Arthapadmasana, Vrikshasana, Chakrasana, Crocodile exercises and many more.

Her skill of holding intricate postures over water – without any support embodies physical self-control and spiritual depth.

Her nine-hour uninterrupted Jalayoga session broken only momentarily for necessary intervals, has already been listed in the World Book of Records and is in consideration for a certificate by the Guinness World Records and Limca Book of Records.

“The Maha Kumbh Mela is not merely a gathering—it’s a spiritual phenomenon. To perform Jalayoga here is not just a personal milestone but a tribute to India’s eternal connection with yoga and nature,” Dr. Savitha Rani said, reflecting on the moment.

The performance captivated pilgrims, yogis, and international visitors alike, symbolizing a powerful new expression of the sacred union between humanity and the elements. Her act brought unprecedented global attention to Jalayoga, an art form she has pioneered with unwavering dedication.

Dr. Savitha Rani attributes her inspiration to her parents, Prof. K. Mallikarjuna and Smt. Nirmala Mallikarjuna. Her mother introduced her to traditional yoga and encouraged her to explore its possibilities in water—an influence that shaped her lifelong journey of innovation and devotion.

This is not the first time Dr. Rani has performed at a Kumbh. She has worked at local festivals like the Kumbh at Ambigarahalli and T. Narasipura in Karnataka before. But her achievement at the Maha Kumbh Mela is now the highlight of her career—and an inspiration to yoga enthusiasts everywhere.

The Indian government is likely to officially acknowledge her work, with numerous spiritual and cultural authorities asking for her to be honored nationally. Media and yoga groups around the globe are also calling for greater appreciation of Jalayoga as an art and spiritual path.

With this record-breaking performance, Dr. Savitha Rani has not only demonstrated the strength of yoga off the mat but has promoted India’s cultural and spiritual heritage to the world.

As she puts it: – “Jalayoga is not just an art—it’s a divine experience that fuses the body, mind, and soul with the essence of water and the universe. To offer this to the world at the Kumbh Mela is my tribute to India’s timeless wisdom.”
