Hyderabad (Telangana) [India]  September 24: As part of their commitment to environmental sustainability, students from Delhi Public School (DPS), Miyapur, actively participated in the Ozone Run 2024, where they gathered to sign a petition advocating for improved road hygiene in Hyderabad. This initiative highlights the school’s dedication to fostering a cleaner and safer community for all.

The Ozone Run, held on 15th September, 2024, at Gachibowli Stadium, brought together over 1,000 families in a unified effort to raise awareness about environmental issues. Following the event, DPS students presented their petition to the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC), addressing critical sanitation concerns that affect the health and safety of local residents.

    Celebrating Community and Commitment

The event was graced by distinguished guests, including Shri Jagadeeswar Goud, MLA Contestant from Serilingampally, and Mr. Gareth Wynn Owen, British Deputy High Commissioner. Both leaders expressed their strong support for environmental initiatives and praised the community’s efforts to raise awareness. “This is not just a race; it’s a collective commitment to ensuring the health of our city and our planet,” stated Shri Goud during his address to the participants.

    A Visionary Leadership

The success of Ozone Run 2024 can be attributed to the visionary leadership of its founders, Ms. Bilvoa Vunnam and Ms. Teerdha Vunnam, alongside SWAN Chairperson Mrs. Meghana Musunuri and Secretary Mr. Sridhar Vunnam. Their dedication to promoting environmental awareness has been instrumental in creating a platform that not only encourages fitness but also fosters a sense of community responsibility. Under their guidance, the event successfully brought together participants from various prestigious schools, emphasizing the importance of educating younger generations about sustainable living.

    A Catalyst for Change

The Ozone Run 2024 not only provided a vibrant space for community engagement but also served as a catalyst for ongoing dialogue about environmental issues in Hyderabad. Participants enjoyed a range of activities, including a 2K, 5K, and 10K run, along with medical aid, post-run meals, and entertainment. The event concluded with a petition presented to public representatives, calling for immediate action on improving road hygiene across the city.

    A Unified Call for Action

The petition, signed by 3,800 students and staff, outlines specific hygiene issues, including improper waste disposal, infrequent trash collection, and safety concerns related to stray animals near garbage sites. “We believe that by voicing our concerns, we can make a significant impact on the cleanliness of our roads and neighborhoods,” said Principal Ms. Gowri Sarkar.

At the Ozone Run, students engaged with the community, raising awareness about the importance of maintaining hygiene and taking responsibility for their surroundings. The event served as a platform to emphasize the role of youth in driving positive change in their communities.

    Community Support and Collaboration

The petition reflects the collaborative efforts of students from multiple schools, who joined forces to identify sanitation challenges in their local areas. This initiative showcases the importance of environmental education and the role of young leaders in advocating for public health.

The DPS community expressed hope that the GHMC will take their concerns seriously and work towards sustainable solutions. “Our aim is to create a cleaner Hyderabad for future generations,” added Ms. Sarkar.

As DPS, Miyapur continues to champion environmental initiatives, the school looks forward to a positive response from GHMC and is eager to collaborate on efforts to improve road hygiene in the city. The students’ participation in the Ozone Run and their commitment to this cause exemplify the spirit of community engagement and environmental responsibility.
