New Delhi (India), April 1: The BPCL Sanawar Polo 2024, hosted by the Old Sanawarian Society, unfolded amidst the vibrant ambiance of Delhi’s Jaipur Polo grounds on a delightful afternoon of March 30th, 2024. Polo aficionados gathered to witness this prestigious event, which was co-hosted by entrepreneur Sunayana Chibba.
Some of the esteemed guests present at the event were Arjuna Awardee Col Billy Sodhi (Senior Most Living Polo Player in India), Polo Players Jai Shergill, Youngest Polo Player Jaiman Shergill, Jaiman Shergill, Donnah Chadha, Amarjyot Hundal, Pankaj Sappru President OSA, Riyad Kundenmal, Uday Kalyan, Angad Kalan also part of Indian World Cup team , Mau Shergill, Afsana Cherian Kapoor, Rajendra Singh Chadha, Aparna Verma to name a few
The event featured two exhilarating exhibition matches: traditional Polo and Cycle Polo, with teams predominantly composed of Old Sanawarians. Adding to the spectacle were the officers of the 61st Cavalry, showcasing their equestrian prowess. The splendid performance by the Army Band further enhanced the atmosphere. Attendees numbering over 300 included distinguished personalities from the National Capital Region (NCR), notable alumni of Sanawar, senior bureaucrats, leading industrialists, accomplished scientists, renowned doctors, eminent artists, and prominent figures from the film and media industry.
During the presentation ceremony, 14 revered Old Sanawarian Polo players were honored with Lifetime Achievement Awards. Among them were several Arjuna awardees that had represented and captained the Indian Polo team since the 1960s. The esteemed gathering paid tribute to these stalwarts, with Col. (Retd.) H. S. Sodhi VSM, the senior most among them gracing the occasion as the Chief Guest. The presentation party included representatives from the Title Sponsor Bharat Petroleum, Co-Sponsor Hero Insurance Broking, Gifting Sponsor Shaza Life, and the Headmaster of The Lawrence School, Sanawar, and the President of The Old Sanawarian Society.
