New Delhi (India), May 22: I am proud to have won a historic medal in the Asian Taekwondo championship held in Vietnam. This bronze medal has boosted my confidence. I am very happy that the dream of winning a medal for the country at the international level has come true. This was stated by Rupa Bayor who won the bronze medal in this competition. Meanwhile Rodali Barua won the bronze medal in the Kyorugi category at the same event.

Rupa further said that Federation president Namdev Shirgaonkar, coach Abhishek Dubey guided in the best way. So, I definitely made it to the team, said bronze medalist Rupa Bayor, who attributed her success to the federation. She won a bronze medal in the individual event in the Poomsae category.

The young player from Arunachal Pradesh won the bronze medal for India in the most challenging category, Poomsae. Rupa had the potential to shine in the recent Asian Games as well. India could have registered a historic medal in the Asian Games as well, had the entry been secured with the help of the Indian Olympic Association.

Indian players also won silver in the team division of the Asian Championship. India has won medals for the first time in ten years in this tournament.

Sita, Harsha Singha, Usha Dhamanskar made it a double medal success for the Indian team in the team category, eclipsing the performance of bronze medal winner Rupa Bayer. All the three skilled players recorded their best performance and won the silver medal for the Indian team in the Poomsae event.

Meanwhile Rodali Barua won the bronze medal in the Kyorugi category in this Asian Taekwondo championship. This was India’s first medal in this category after ten years. In 2014, Latika Bhandari won the bronze medal in this category.

The categories in which Rupa and Rodali won the medals are basically Asian Games categories. Considering fact, their success is definitely encouraging for them as well as other young players.

    Historical Medal Inspiring: Shirgaonkar

The players of the Indian team have achieved this historic medal through tireless hard work. In this performance, Roopa won the bronze medal. Because of this, this history-making medal will be an inspiration to all. Indian players had prepared thoroughly for this league. President Namdev Shirgaonkar said this medal is a matter of pride for all.
