Kochi (Kerala) [India], December 19: The story of RoshAI Pvt. Ltd. began with a life-changing incident in 2010 when its founder, Dr. Roshy John, narrowly escaped a fatal accident due to a drowsy driver in Bangalore. This close call sparked a realization in Dr. Roshy, who was then the Global Head of Robotics at Tata Consultancy Services (TCS): the potential of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and robotics to solve pressing issues in India was immense.

Motivated by this insight, Dr. Roshy and his colleague Rajaram Moorthy, who served as his program director for complex projects, resigned from their lucrative positions to establish RoshAI.

Their goal was ambitious: to develop indigenous driverless car technology in India. Their guiding belief was that if their technology succeeded in India’s challenging driving conditions, it would be successful anywhere.

RoshAI’s journey began with a significant milestone in 2011 when Dr. Roshy converted a Tata Nano into India’s first driverless car. Fast forward to 2023, the company has grown significantly. RoshAI now supplies autonomy and Advanced Driver-Assistance Systems (ADAS) software to various sectors globally, including automotive, mining, and education. The focus of RoshAI is on developing ADAS, a precursor to fully autonomous vehicles. The company has achieved Level 3 (L3) Driverless capability, a significant feat in India’s tech landscape.

Their current challenge involves navigating through chaotic driving scenarios, mimicking the complexities that human drivers face daily. India’s unique road conditions, characterized by lower standards and defensive driving habits, provide a rich testing ground for RoshAI’s technology. Dr. Roshy believes that success in India will pave the way for global adoption, especially in countries with less complex traffic conditions.

RoshAI envisions a future where driverless technology transforms various sectors. Airports, ports, and mining industries, where driver scarcity is a common issue, are prime areas for such technology. The impact on taxi services like Uber and Ola could be revolutionary, making transportation more efficient and safer. Beyond commercial applications, RoshAI’s technology holds promise for individuals with mobility issues, offering them new levels of independence.

The company also foresees a shift in the driving profession, where drivers transition to high-tech roles, remotely monitoring and controlling fleets of vehicles. Understanding the importance of nurturing future talent, RoshAI offers substantial discounts on L3 autonomy-ready vehicles to educational institutions, along with curriculum support. Dr. Roshy emphasizes the significance of students having full access to this cutting-edge technology, recognizing their role in harnessing AI for real-world challenges, which will harness our nation’s growth.

RoshAI is a deep tech B2B start-up focusing on Driverless and ADAS Technology for automotive, sea port, airport and mining companies. They are on a mission to create job opportunities which never existed before. Started by bootstrapping and relying on revenue from customer projects, they are now seeking a seed round of USD 5 million.
