Ahmedabad (Gujarat) [India], February 12: The Movers Federation of India held its Press Conference today at Hotel Fortune Select, SG Highway, Ahmedabad, ahead of its 9th National Conference, positioning the event as a defining moment for India’s relocation and packers and movers industry.
The conference, themed “Moving India Forward By Raising Standards,” has brought together leading relocation entrepreneurs from over 50 cities across India and the UAE. It is being recognized as one of the largest structured gatherings of professional movers in the country.
India’s relocation and packers and movers sector has grown significantly in recent years, driven by urbanization, corporate mobility, e commerce expansion, and rising inter state migration. The industry is estimated to be worth several thousand crores annually and continues to expand at a steady pace. However, despite its economic importance, the sector remains largely unorganized, with inconsistent service standards and minimal regulatory oversight.
Customers frequently face issues such as hidden charges, damaged goods, delayed deliveries, lack of insurance clarity, and fraudulent operators. On the business side, genuine operators struggle with intense price undercutting, rising fuel and compliance costs, GST complexities, interstate permit challenges, and lack of formal recognition as a structured service industry.
Addressing the media, Mr. Ajit Sharma, Trustee and Founder Chairperson of the Movers Federation of India, said, “The relocation industry moves India’s workforce, businesses, and households. Yet it remains underserved in terms of policy support and regulatory clarity. Our goal is to bring accountability, professionalism, and global standards to this sector.”
Alok Bhargava, Trustee and President of MFI, emphasized the need for collective reform. “We are no longer just transporters. We are logistics partners enabling economic mobility. Through this conference, we aim to unify credible companies, encourage technology adoption, and promote ethical business practices that protect both customers and service providers.”
Anoop Mishra, Trustee and Secretary of MFI, highlighted the pressing concerns of customers. “Trust deficit is the biggest issue in our industry. A single bad experience damages the reputation of hundreds of genuine operators. MFI is working toward certification mechanisms, standardized documentation, dispute resolution frameworks, and customer awareness initiatives.”
The conference was hosted by MFI’s Gujarat member, Chetan Sharma of ARG Relocations Pvt. Ltd. He extended a warm welcome to delegates from across India and the UAE and expressed his gratitude to all MFI members for traveling to Ahmedabad to participate in the 9th National Conference, underscoring the spirit of unity and collaboration within the federation.
During the press conference, MFI placed key demands before the government. These include formal recognition of the relocation and packers and movers industry as a structured logistics service category, creation of standardized operating guidelines, stricter action against fraudulent operators, simplified interstate movement compliance, and policy incentives for digitization and fleet modernization.
The 9th National Conference features panel discussions on regulatory reforms, digital transformation in relocation services, risk management, insurance frameworks, and sustainable logistics practices. Technology providers are also showcasing innovative tracking systems, warehouse solutions, and customer service platforms.
With participants from across 50 cities in India and the UAE, the event reflects the growing ambition of Indian relocation companies to align with international benchmarks.
As India’s economy becomes increasingly mobile, the Movers Federation of India is positioning itself as the unified voice of a sector that touches millions of households every year. The message from Ahmedabad is clear: raising standards is not optional, it is essential for moving India forward.
