New Delhi [India], July 18: A powerful blend of truth, testimony, and transformation, Hope Restored chronicles real-life rescue stories of children trapped in labour across India. Drawing from over a decade of ground experience and policy advocacy, Dr. Pandya offers a deeply moving yet practical guide for activists, educators, and concerned citizens. This book is a vital resource in the ongoing fight to protect every child’s right to a safe and dignified childhood.
In a world where the cries of exploited children are too often drowned in silence, Dr. Shailendra Pandya’s debut book, Hope Restored: The Fight Against Child Labour, arrives as a resounding call to conscience—and action. A native of Udaipur, Rajasthan, Dr. Pandya is not just a child rights advocate; he is a determined changemaker whose life work has impacted thousands of vulnerable children
Inspired early on by his father, who walked 10 miles a day just to attend school and educate himself. Dr. Pandya’s journey took an unusual turn. Despite earning a degree in Computer Science Engineering and securing a job in a multinational company, he felt an unshakable pull toward serving marginalized communities. Thirteen years and over 4,600 rescued children later, that purpose has taken the form of both grassroots fieldwork and policy-level advocacy, making him one of the youngest members to have served on the Rajasthan State Commission for Protection of Child Rights, Government of Rajasthan.
Hope Restored is not just another book on child labour. It is a deeply personal, practical, and powerful manual grounded in lived experience. Each page pulsates with the stories of children rescued from harsh, dehumanizing conditions. But beyond their pain, Dr. Pandya highlights resilience, recovery, and the systems that can and must work better.
“This book is a tribute to every child who dared to dream beyond the boundaries of exploitation,” he writes. “It is meant to inspire, inform, and guide anyone moved to take a stand.”
What sets Hope Restored apart is its unique balance: it is as much a humanitarian chronicle as it is a procedural guide. Drawing on his legal, academic, and social work background, including a PhD focused on child rights in tribal areas—Dr. Pandya lays out a roadmap for rescuing, rehabilitating, and reintegrating children trapped in labour. His writing bridges the often wide gap between law and lived reality, policy and practice.
The book also emphasizes the vital role of collaboration between NGOs, law enforcement, educators, government officials, and citizens. Through real-life case studies, Dr. Pandya showcases how inter-agency convergence can transform individual rescue stories into sustainable systemic change. In doing so, he not only documents challenges but offers hope born from experience.
Currently serving as Director of Gayatri Seva Sansthan, an NGO working PAN India, Dr. Pandya continues to champion child protection, education, and community empowerment. With Hope Restored, he now expands that mission to readers everywhere, urging them to understand the problem, recognize the signs of trafficking, and take practical steps to intervene.
“There are many books on social issues, but what we really need are works that connect the dots between data and humanity, policy and people. That’s what I’ve tried to do.” – Dr. Pandya notes
With plans to write future works on topics such as child marriage, community-led change, and sustainable development, Dr. Pandya’s voice is one the country urgently needs, not only as an expert but as a witness to truth and a messenger of transformation.
For anyone who has ever wondered what it truly takes to protect a child, Hope Restored is more than a book—it is a beacon.
