London (United Kingdom) [England], June 27: Acclaimed Indian artist and designer Vibhor Sogani presents a striking new lens into his creative world at the London Design Biennale 2025, held at Somerset House, London, from June 5– June 29, 2025. His showcase takes the form of a compelling short film, Silent Subtext – The Art of Vibhor Sogani, offering audiences a meditative and immersive exploration of his artistic language, design philosophy, and the emotional and sensory dimension of his work.

Curated in response to the Biennale’s 2025 theme, “Surface Reflections,” the film examines the dynamic interplay of material, perception, and meaning—a hallmark of Sogani’s visual language. His practice is defined by minimal yet evocative forms where scale, symmetry, technique, and material depth come together to create an emotional resonance. His aesthetic is distilled, intentional, and deeply poetic.

“Stainless steel reflects the viewer, the sky, and the surroundings. It brings the artwork to life in its way, constantly shifting. That’s what excites me—when art invites you in, not just to look at it, but to become a part of it,” says Vibhor Sogani.

At the core of Silent Subtext is Sogani’s enduring fascination with materiality—particularly stainless steel, a recurring element in his work. With its mirror finish and ever-changing reflections, stainless steel acts as a conceptual anchor in the film, transforming with its environment and becoming an extension of its surroundings. It becomes a surface in motion—alive, fluid, and unpredictable.

Yet, the film moves beyond material to touch upon Sogani’s relationship with public space and viewer engagement. His installations—often site-responsive and situated in open, urban settings—are designed to spark dialogue outside the confines of a gallery. Silent Subtext echoes this approach. Directed by Shankhajeet De, the film captures moments of stillness and reflection, encouraging viewers to pause, absorb, and discover meaning beneath the surface.

Sogani’s presence at the Biennale feels both timely and resonant, aligning seamlessly with the curatorial premise of Surface Reflections. His work reveals how surfaces—literal, emotional, and conceptual—carry narratives, memories, and inquiries. With a practice rooted in Indian sensibilities yet speaking a global design language, Sogani’s voice adds vital depth to the Biennale’s evolving discourse.

Vibhor Sogani is an Indian artist and designer known for his monumental public installations and material-driven storytelling. With a background in Industrial Design from the National Institute of Design (NID) Ahmedabad, his work explores scale, reflection, and viewer engagement through dynamic forms. In 2025, he represents India at the London Design Biennale with Silent Subtext, a film that captures his artistic journey and philosophy.

    •   Sprouts (New Delhi)

A 40-ft-high stainless steel installation spread across 6 acres, Sprouts is one of the most recognised public artworks in India. Commissioned as a symbol of India’s emergence as a global presence, its mirrored, organic forms evoke growth, renewal, and a collective national aspiration.

    •   Kalpavriksha – The Wish‑Fulfilling Tree (Ahmedabad)

Standing tall in the heart of Ahmedabad, this sculpture of mirror-finish steel spheres is inspired by the mythological wish-fulfilling tree. The piece acts as a civic landmark, celebrating abundance, prosperity, and the power of public imagination.

    •   Deepam (Amsterdam – Amsterdam Light Festival, Herengracht Canal)

Presented as part of the Amsterdam Light Festival, Deepam featured 70 floating brass lanterns across a 100-metre stretch of canal. Rooted in the warmth of Indian rituals, the installation served as a contemporary tribute to light, memory, and shared cultural heritage.

    •   Pool of Dreams (Amsterdam – Amsterdam Light Festival 2023)

Also showcased at the Amsterdam Light Festival, this immersive installation comprised 100 mirror-polished stainless steel orbs. Reflecting the future-forward themes of technology and utopia, Pool of Dreams blurred the boundaries between viewer and environment in a contemplative public space. It is currently in the permanent portfolio of the Light Art Collection.

    •   Tidal Tango (Mumbai – Architecture & Design Film Festival: STIR Edition)

Installed during ADFF:STIR in Mumbai, Tidal Tango is a sculptural wave formed in stainless steel, animated by reflective surfaces and coloured light. It captures the poetic interplay between movement and stillness, evoking the rhythm of the city and the calm beneath.
