New Delhi [India], May 15: The various attractions at Gujarat Science City in Ahmedabad continue to engage visitors of all age groups, from children to the elderly. Adding to this impressive list is a new and exciting addition — the Astronomy and Space Science Gallery, which is set to open soon.

This state-of-the-art gallery, developed at Science City, Ahmedabad, under the Department of Science and Technology, Government of Gujarat, will be open to the public from 15 May 2025. Based on the magnificent structure of the solar system, the gallery will serve as an exceptional educational and informative space.

On this occasion, Principal Secretary of the Department of Science and Technology, Ms Mona Khandhar, shared insights about the Astronomy and Space Science Gallery, stating, “Science City continues to emerge as a major centre of attraction under the visionary leadership of Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi and the guidance of Chief Minister Shri Bhupendra Patel.”

She further said, “Following the resounding success of the Aquarium and the Robotic Gallery at Science City, this third major attraction — the Astronomy and Space Science Gallery — is now being inaugurated. The gallery also highlights India’s significant contributions to astronomy and space science.”

Ms Khandhar added that, given the ongoing vacation period, the gallery will be inaugurated on Thursday, 15 May, as per the Chief Minister’s directive, so that students and families can benefit from this facility during the holidays.

She also elaborated on the unique features and importance of the gallery, highlighting that special activities and a 3D film have been arranged for students.

It is noteworthy that this gallery is spread across an area of 12,797 square metres and features a massive globe, representing the Sun, that rises three storeys high at its centre, surrounded by an arrangement of the other planets. The gallery is spread across three floors and consists of six main sections. The Fundamentals and History section includes 47 exhibits that explore the core principles and the history of astronomy.

The Present Gallery section contains nearly 30 exhibits focused on current space missions and discoveries. Similarly, the Future Gallery features 24 exhibits based on future research prospects.
