Bengaluru (Karnataka) [India], December 2: Former Supreme Court Justice V. Gopala Gowda expressed concerns over the environmental impact of sustainable development initiatives, stating that global warming is being exacerbated by the environmentally harmful practices of developed nations driven by their pursuit of luxury.

Speaking at the inauguration of a two-day  CSR and NGO Collaboration Conference for a Sustainable Future,  held at a city hotel, Justice Gowda emphasised the urgent need for collective action to address these challenges.

Environmental Challenges and the Role of the Constitution

“In India, the 44th Amendment to the Constitution introduced provisions to protect the environment and biodiversity. Following this, the Supreme Court’s Constitution Bench has delivered verdicts addressing various aspects of pollution. However, it is disheartening to see limited implementation of these directives. Pollution has now infiltrated rural areas, with chemicals and pesticides used in agriculture entering our daily food. This calls for urgent activism to mitigate these issues,” he said.

Justice Gowda underscored the importance of corporate entities collaborating with voluntary organisations under their Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) mandates to build a pollution-free environment. “Initiatives such as WEMAAA – VEMA play a vital role in bringing stakeholders together, and I fully support these efforts,” he added.

    Pioneering Collaboration for Sustainability

Sri Sri Sri Agastya Guruji, founder of the WEMAAA program and a distinguished analyst and researcher of Vedas and Agamas, outlined the conference’s objectives. He explained that the event, organised by the International Research Council for Environmental Inclusion (IRCEI), seeks to transform CSR by fostering meaningful collaborations between corporate leaders and NGOs.

“This summit is a crucial step toward shaping a sustainable future. By uniting corporate aspirations with grassroots realities, WEMAAA goes beyond being an initiative—it’s a movement to address challenges across 12 critical sectors. This effort will leave a lasting impact on society and the environment,” said Guruji.

The two-day conference has drawn participation from corporate leaders and NGO representatives, setting the stage for impactful partnerships aimed at addressing pressing environmental and societal issues.
