Ranchi (Jharkhand) August 21: On World Indigenous Day 2024, Johargram brought to life an enthralling Tribal fashion show, a vivid celebration of the rich cultural tapestry of Indigenous communities. The event brilliantly showcased traditional textiles from tribes across the globe, offering a deep dive into the unique heritage and artistry that define these communities. Not only did it present a global perspective, but it also highlighted the diverse regional traditions from India’s North, West, South, and East, illustrating the country’s vibrant textile diversity.A highlight of the evening was a special segment dedicated to Jharkhand, which honored the state’s Indigenous tribes with a stunning display of traditional fabrics and a captivating theatrical performance. This segment served as a powerful tribute to Jharkhand’s cultural pride, aiming to foster cross-cultural appreciation and celebrate the timeless traditions of Indigenous peoples worldwide.

The event was inaugurated by Dishom Guru Shibu Soren and Governor of Jharkhand Sh. Santosh Gangwar, setting the stage for an evening filled with cultural splendor. The event’s crowning moments were graced by the presence of the honourable Chief Minister Sh. Hemant Soren. Also present on the occasion were Tribal development minister Sh. Deepak Birua, Hon’ble minister Sh. Hafizul Hasan  and Hon’ble MLA Kalpana Murmu Soren. The Show was also supported by  Shri Kripanand Jha, Secretary of Tribal Welfare, and Shri Ajay Nath Jha, Tribal Welfare Commissioner.

The show’s choreography was a vibrant portrayal of the dynamic energy inherent in tribal culture, seamlessly blending tradition with contemporary flair.

The runway came alive with a diverse array of models, each representing different tribal origins from across the globe. Their attire, crafted by four esteemed local labels—Jharkhand Rajya Khadi Gramodyog Board, Jharcraft, Jobaha, and the host brand Johargram—brought the exquisite craftsmanship of tribal textiles into the spotlight.

Bringing together leading names from the fashion industry, the event was a collaborative effort by designers, show directors, fashion choreographers, stylists, and tribal models. It was a masterful confluence of theatre, art, and music, all within the historic walls of the Birsa Munda Museum in Ranchi—a fitting tribute to the rich heritage of tribal communities.

This year’s theme, ‘Celebration of World and Indian Tribes,’ guided the event’s narrative, taking the audience on a poignant journey that challenged stereotypes and empowered the global tribal community. The creative direction, led by the illustrious Neeraj Gaba, infused the show with a distinctive vision, while DH Franklin’s curation ensured aesthetic brilliance. Lakmé academy Ranchi with hair and makeup director Kaajee Rai added an enchanting touch, especially meaningful as a significant portion of the crew hailed from tribal communities themselves.
