    New Delhi (India), January 02: Inter-University Accelerator Centre (IUAC), New Delhi, organized a programme at “Maharshi Kanad Auditorium”, IUAC, on 19th Dec. 2022 to commemorate the 33rd Foundation Day of Inter-University Accelerator Centre, New Delhi.

    The program was organized especially for the school students of standard XI-XII, who have been studying Science in their Schools. We received participation from over 105 students and teachers representing 18 schools from Delhi and NCR. 

    The programme started with the lamp lighting ceremony by the dignitaries and the welcoming of Guests by Dr. Shubhendu Ghosh, Scientist H, IUAC New Delhi. The programme was graced by the presence of Dr. N. Kalaselvi ji, Director General, Council of Scientific & Industrial Research (CSIR), India, as a keynote speaker. She emphasized in her address that Li/ Na ion batteries are the future and are being used. She further added that the Industrial growth of India has to be revolutionised to reach the milestone of becoming a Developed Nation by 2030, as foreseen by our Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modiji. She also encouraged the students to take up Science in their careers and do work to reach this goal. The programme was presided over by Prof. M. Jagadesh Kumar Ji, Chairman University Grants Commission (UGC). He interacted with School students in the auditorium, discussed their career choices, and motivated them to have a ‘Plan B’ ready in case ‘plan A’ did not work out. He pressed upon following his dreams/ goals with perseverance.

    Prof. Avinash Chandra Pandey ji, Director, IUAC, New Delhi, presented a report on activities carried out by IUAC in the past few years and emphasized the role of indigenous developments and innovations through many projects and collaborations from various Institutes. The foundation stone for a new Data Centre was also laid by Prof M. Jagadesh Kumar ji along with Prof. A. C. Pandey. The Hindi website of IUAC was inaugurated along with the e-magazine “Twarika” by the dignitaries during the proceedings.

    Dignitaries graced the occasion; Dr. N. Kalaiselvi Ji, DG, CSIR, Prof. M. Jagadesh Kumar ji, Chairman, UGC and Prof. A. C. Pandey ji, Director, IUAC, New Delhi.

    There were many activities organized for the school students. They visited various experimental facilities of IUAC and interacted with respective Scientists. Various basic Science experimental demonstrations were also arranged for the students to make them aware of the basic phenomena of Physics. They were elated by the experience and wished to visit IUAC again through some more programs or visits. Participation Certificates were handed over to all the students and their teachers. 

    The program ended with a Vote of Thanks by Dr. S. Ghosh, followed by National Anthem.
