Kuala Lumpur [Malaysia ], October 4: The 57th ASEAN Economic Ministers (AEM) Meeting held in Malaysia reaffirmed the region’s shared commitment to Inclusivity and Sustainability, in line with ASEAN Malaysia 2025’s theme of advancing equitable growth and resilient partnerships across Southeast Asia. Economic leaders and representatives from ASEAN Member States and dialogue partners gathered to discuss strategies for sustainable trade, inclusive economic development, and enhanced regional integration.

In the spirit of strengthened bilateral cooperation, Dr. Asif Iqbal, President of the Indian Economic Trade Organisation (IETO), held a productive meeting with YB Liew Chin Tong, Deputy Minister of Investment, Trade and Industry (MITI), Malaysia. The dialogue focused on deepening India–Malaysia trade relations, expanding SME cooperation, and enhancing technology-driven investments in the ASEAN region.

Deputy Minister Liew Chin Tong, a key figure in Malaysia’s economic planning and industrial strategy, emphasized the importance of partnerships that foster innovation, digital transformation, and sustainability. Dr. Iqbal and Deputy Minister Liew discussed joint opportunities in key sectors including green energy, digital trade, and youth entrepreneurship.

Further underlining India’s growing engagement in Southeast Asia, Dr. Iqbal highlighted recent developments in India–Philippines economic ties, including trade missions, pharmaceutical sector collaboration, and digital innovation exchanges. These engagements underscore India’s active role in the ASEAN+ dialogue process and its vision for a dynamic, inclusive Indo-Pacific.

Dr. Asif Iqbal also formally invited Deputy Minister Liew Chin Tong and the Malaysian business delegation to participate in the ASEAN–India Trade and Investment Summit scheduled to take place in Klang, Malaysia, in November 2025. The Summit is set to bring together key stakeholders from ASEAN and India to explore new frameworks for sustainable economic growth and people-centered development.

The IETO, in partnership with regional chambers and ministries, remains committed to supporting ASEAN’s economic vision and fostering platforms that promote mutual prosperity across Asia.
